Definitely. I feel like once we 'grow up' (if we ever, cause sometimes I wonder..) we stop classifying people as hot/ugly or whatever the fuck fits in between. Those conversations feel very immature to me, we can't afford eggs and we're calling men ugly hot because we're obsessed with appearances.. And yes, like you said, it's super weird to go online calling people rodent like wtf is this 😩

So, plenty of my fellow fat women will resonate with the specific, specific moment you can see the tiny wheels turn in a man's eyes, where he has realised he finds you attractive, but you aren't thin and he knows that he is always and exclusively attracted to thin women, so he's horribly confused. It is not only incredibly obvious, but it feels like absolute shit.

And yet, here we are, pulling the same shit on men, only louder. We managed to take a nice, wholesome thing - all people can be hot AF if they just look and vibe hot AF - and make it fucking icky.

Not sure what you’re trying to say, but if you read my original post it should be clear that I’m against judging people based on what they look like, including saying that they look like rodents

Wait I literally have a draft about this subject. I had no idea it was this widespread, because I only saw it for the first time on the national broadcasting online and thought: "Surely they cant be serious with this". What is wrong with people now days? This is the same bully culture from school playgrounds only media and grown ups are doing it.

The internet has made people too bold, they say celebs should have thick skin like they aren’t, um, people? With feelings? A lot of the best actors got into acting for the craft, you know? And then they think no one is reading the comments, but so they really need to read the comments of the ARTICLE itself is about how they’re “hot in an ugly way”? That’s why I feel like every that leaves an unkind comment about someone should have their picture posted, a candid one, and yea I’m a toddler 😂 anyhoooo I loved this article 🥰

If anything, our societal hunger for youth and beauty has only gotten worse, and with medical aesthetics as prevalent as they are, the gap between those who can foot the bill for ‘conventional’ beauty and ‘the rest of us’ will continue to grow.

Somewhat relatedly, I've long been slightly obsessed with how much work male/masc celebrities get done that never gets commented on, which somehow both reinforces the idea that male vanity doesn't exist AND reinforces an impossible male beauty standard

truly loved this! the amount of people who are happy to publicly call men ugly makes me v uneasy. I understand drawing attention to the level of effort/attractiveness expected of women vs men, but if it makes you feel good to dismiss people as ugly (especially if that’s the only way you can call people attractive??) maybe there’s something else going on for you

OMG! I remember a men telling me that he'd "never been intrested in women with short hair, glasses, or a fuller figure" (i assume he meant body fat). Followed by "Fuck, I am attracted to you. ICK ICK ICK. I think, he thought it was a compliment. I did not.

Why is it always guys getting called unattractive or ugly? Especially when they are with a famous female celebrity. Like, people were saying stuff about Ethan Slater and Benny Blanco's looks and it made me so uncomfortable. Why is it okay to judge a guy based on his appearance? You rarely see that happen to women. And I think calling them "ugly hot" is worser than just calling them ugly 💀

women get it a lot too unfortunately (most recently a guy editing the lead from fallout to have a bigger butt and boobs and women/girls calling the women from love island old and ugly) but it is frustrating from girls/women who’d consider themselves progressive thinking it’s okay to call men ugly as “revenge”, therefore reinforcing the beauty standards that oppress all of us

The "revenge" calling people ugly gets under my skin SO MUCH. Criticize people for their actions and words that are absolute trash, but leave their looks, their weight, their aging, their bodies out of it. The argument that 'they started it' is juvenile. We can be better than that.

this! it pushes the condemnation onto a completely random attribute that anyone could have rather than what’s actually bad about their actions/beliefs, almost like a strawman. and it diverts the stigma as well (like no true scotsman), like when ppl call straight guys gay when they’re being misogynistic.

Oh man, thanks for this. I have been hating seeing this trend everywhere, and any variation of it. They’re thin, young, white cis dudes, calling them attractive is probably pretty standard in our culture. Just because they don’t have faces that look like they’ve been face tuned to death doesn’t make what you’re saying less weird. Like if men started calling women rat like everyone would be so mad, but this is somehow considered fun and cool? Idk man.

But I think making fun of anyone’s appearance, even people you don’t like, is a crummy thing to do. Guess that makes me an outlier for some folks.
